JOB DESCRIPTION
Role: Executive Director, Marketing, Branding & Communications
Commitment: Voluntary – approximately 15 hrs per month. This includes 6 Board meetings a year, plus one or two sportscotland meetings. There is a significant degree of flexibility (day and/or evening) around this contribution, including meeting dates and times, to suit the diary of the successful candidate.
Salary: Non-remunerated although reasonable travel expenses are provided
Responsible to: Board of Directors via Management Board meetings, and the membership, via individuals SGB AGMs.
Angling Scotland Ltd
Angling Scotland Ltd is the umbrella organsiation for the three Scottish Angling Governing Bodies, Scottish Anglers National Association (SANA), Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling (SFCA) and Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers (SFSA) and provides a collective voice for the whole of the sport of Angling in Scotland; we exist to protect and promote angling and anglers, support the discipline SGBs and grow participation.
We bring the Angling SGBs together with a wide range of partners to engage with national and local government, Scottish Parliament, sportscotland, business, the voluntary sector and other key organisations, to shape, strengthen, promote and grow the sport of angling in Scotland. We also develop and implement common core policies and procedures for Scottish angling to ensure effective governance, standardization, transparency and thus confidence for our member organisations, clubs, individual anglers and the wider Scottish public. Angling Scotland, through its sub committees, provides the governance structure for the three Angling SGBs and, through the Angling Development Board of Scotland (ADBoS), the training and licensing of coaches and delivery of grass roots introduction and schools programs.
The discipline specific SGBs remain responsible for the governance, technical development and delivery of their individual sports, competitions and competitive pathways, the selection and fielding of International Representative teams and provision a formal membership structure for Clubs and Individual members. They provide technical coaching and competition development opportunities to support their own discipline specific performance pathways.

This is an exciting time to join the newly formed Angling Scotland Limited and help to shape the future for the extremely varied sport of Angling in Scotland. As an organisation we are still evolving as we seek to establish the structure and sub committees to meet the needs of the sport for future generations. Angling Scotland Limited brings together the voice, the administration and the memberships of the Scottish Anglers National Association Limited (SANA), Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling (SFCA) and Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers (SFSA) from our base in Fife.
Sound and effective governance is essential to the organisations success as it develops and delivers across a number of priority work streams. Ensuring that the Board remains effective, efficient and focussed on driving the delivery and implementation of the targets in the Strategic Plan and Annual Business Plans will be critical in growing and developing the sport. The role of Marketing, Branding and Communications Director is central to the growth and development of the sport and ensuring that the work that we do as an organisations is effectively communicated to the wider public. Effective branding, marketing and communications is also critical to our ability to attract external investment and raise awareness of opportunities within the sport.
The successful individual will gain expertise of advising and guiding a small but dynamic Board with the Scottish sporting environment. They will help to shape the future of Scottish Angling, particularly in relation to strategic opportunities and partnerships between Angling Scotland Ltd, our member SGBs, key partners – eg sportscotland – and other potential organisations. This is a great opportunity for someone from a media, marketing or sponsorship background with a passion for sport and presents great potential for meeting new people and new networks and making a genuine difference to sport in Scotland and opportunities for young people.
The Angling Scotland Board is developing a strong, skill-based Board and is keen to appoint a candidate with vision to help to grow and develop the sport over the duration of our new Strategic Plan 2017-2021. With the right skills and experience the Marketing, Branding and Communications Director will play a key role in increasing the profile of Angling Scotland so that it can further support and represent the interests of our member governing bodies and positively influence policy and strategy for the benefit of the sport of angling in Scotland.
Job Purpose
The post of Marketing, Branding and Communications Director of Angling Scotland Ltd is fundamental to the organization. The Director’s primary role is to provide advice to the Angling Scotland Ltd Board, and staff, to ensure the optimal use is made of opportunities to promote the organization, its work, and most importantly opportunities within the sport of angling in Scotland.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role of the Marketing, Branding and Communications Director are:
- Ensure appropriate media and communications systems are in place across Angling Scotland and the three SGBs.
- Assist the Board in the production of an Annual Communications Strategy to support the delivery of the Annual Business Plan and assist with/supervise in year monitoring against targets.
- Ensure that the Board conducts an Annual Review of Core Communications and Governance Polices and that they are applied correctly (Data Protection Policy, Communications Policy etc)
- Ensure that newsworthy items and key achievements are publicized across a broad range of media to maximise reach.
- Ensure that all external media communications as managed to protect the image of the sport.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Board on opportunities and interactions with the wedia.
- Representing the organisation with key partners and stakeholders
- Ensuring good governance and GDPR compliance.
