SALC Home Nations Shore Angling Championship
Montrose, 3rd and 4th July 2024
The Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers, in association with SALC, is pleased to invite competitors and guests to the 2024 Home International Shore Angling Championships. This event welcomes men’s, ladies’, youth, and junior teams.

Venues: The specific venues for the matches will be determined based on weather conditions but are scheduled to include storm beaches in the Montrose/Arbroath area and the River Tay estuary in Dundee. Potential venues include:
- Elliot Beach
- Montrose Beach
- Lunan Bay
- Riverside Drive, Tay Estuary
Fishing Conditions:
- Beaches: East facing, mainly sand.
- Tides: Medium tide with low tide at 1.4m and high tide at 4.5m.
- Estuary: Predominantly mud with weed and rock patches.
Species to Target:
- Flounder
- Plaice
- Dabs
- Coalfish
- Codling
- Wrasse
- Bass
- Rockling
Fishing Methods: A variety of rigs can be used depending on the target species and required distance. Be prepared for unpredictable sea conditions; heavy grip leads may be necessary to avoid impeding fellow anglers.
Bait: Bait will be supplied to all competitors for both days, including frozen black lug, frozen mackerel fillets, and frozen whole peeler crab. For practice days, teams can pre-order bait by contacting David Neil at 07831 192717.
Important Notes:
- Exact fishing locations will be advised a week before the event.
- In case of adverse weather, the reserve venue will be the sheltered River Tay estuary.
- Ladies and juniors will fish at the same venues, while seniors and youths will be at separate locations.
- Access to venues will be from nearby car parks.
