The Applegarth beat starts a couple of miles downstream from Johnstone Bridge at Lochbrow farm and extends downstream to the junction with the Kinnel and includes the lower parts of the Kinnel (the largest of all the Annan tributaries).
There is a small section on this length which is not covered by the ticket at Jardine hall It is mostly a double bank fishery although there is a piece in the middle and a short section at the bottom which is single bank. The river has very open banks at the top of the beat and further down it is more heavily wooded.
There are over a dozen named pools with loads of fishy water in-between them. The lower end of the Kinnel is often ignored by anglers but contains some very good water for all species.
