The Lyon runs through a stunning glen, just 90 minutes from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There is a wide variety of pools, from deep gorges to wider, open water.

Although the river is highly rated by trout fishermen, South Chesthill Estate caught over 100 salmon in 2011 for the first time ever. Recent records do not do justice to the potential as it has been under fished. If the water conditions are good, then excellent catches are possible.

The river also benefits from weekly “freshets” (releases of water from the dam at the top of the glen).
